Are you familiar with Batchoy?

Batchoy is a delicacy from Iloilo and according to Wikipedia, “Batchoy is a noodle soup made with pork organs, crushed pork cracklings, shrimp, vegetables, chicken  stock, chicken breast, beef loin and round noodles“.

Usually when I buy my groceries, I would see noodles saying they have the flavor of “Lapaz Batchoy” or when I go to other dining places here in Manila, they would offer “batchoy”. But let me tell you that even if they try to offer “batchoy”, I would still say that the batchoy that you can eat in Iloilo is much better.

Let me show you a sample from a well known restaurant that serves batchoy in Iloilo, “Ted’s Old Timer Lapaz Batchoy“. Before, it had a monopoly of the batchoy business but lately, other competitors such as Deco’s has opened so we, as consumers, can have different choices of places to eat Batchoy in Iloilo.

In Ted’s you can order three sizes of batchoy, (super, special, super special) and you can choose your noodle (Bihon, Sotanghon, or Miswa among the choices). On my last visit to Ted’s, I ordered the super special one (there’s only a two peso difference between the batchoy serving sizes). Let the pictures tell you the story of the dish.

It had pork, chicharon, liver, all combined with noodles and delicious broth. Try adding bread to your meal and finish first the soup before you eat the contents because you can always ask for extra broth. It’s a must try dish if you are going to Iloilo.
