Kenji Tei Ramen House
It has been customary for our team to welcome new members via a welcome dinner for free and for this mini event, we agreed on having it on Kenji Tei. Kenji Tei is a Japanese cuisine restaurant that focuses on Ramen. Personally, this would be the second time that I have eaten ramen so I’m still a newbie and I won’t have a personal standard on what a good ramen or bad ramen should taste like. So anyway, let’s start with our food trip, I mean, welcome dinner!
Kenji Tei Yaki Gyoza
Kenji Tei Cheese Gyoza
The Yaki Gyoza would be a familiar taste but the cheese gyoza was really new for me. It was a fried dumpling but with cheese mixed with the meat inside. It also had a chili-mayo dip which I was afraid to try.
Kenji Tei Crunchy Kani Maki
Kenji Tei Spicy Salmon Maki
This was my first time to try Maki with toppings and I liked it. In fact, I liked the toppings more than the maki itself (especially the spicy salmon).
Kenji Tei Gomoku Shio Ramen (shio broth)
Kenji Tei Negi Itame Ramen (miso broth?)
Kenji Tei Spicy Negi Ramen (miso broth)
Let’s define first the terms used here so that we can understand it better (also for my reference and learning).
- Shio – salt; one of the types of broths used in Ramen. Other choices would be miso, shoyu (soy sauce) and beef/pork broths.
- Negi – Onion;
I’ve learned that when you order ramen you look at two things; the broth and the toppings. Your choice of broth will heavily determine the flavor of your ramen so choose wisely (do you want salty? strong flavor? light?). On the other hand, the toppings simply serve their own purpose, as toppings. So far, I’ve tried pork and miso since that seemed safest. I have yet to try the other variants.
Kenji Tei Katsudon
Kenji Tei Curry Rice
So there you have it and that ends our welcome dinner. I would like to thank Kenji (didn’t get his real name) from Kenji Tei for helping me identify these dishes as I failed to jot them down before. Initially I just wanted to ask for an online menu but he offered to identify them for me. Thank you very much!
Till next time,
