Going back to Conti’s for Dinner
May 02, 2010
On our last visit to Trinoma, I had a personal craving for Conti’s because I want to add their specialty, “baked salmon” to my blog. Diosa agreed and we did a search in Trinoma for Conti’s Pastry Shop & Restaurant. It amazes me that we always get lost in trinoma when looking for places we want to eat. I’m not sure if it is just us or the layout of Trinoma is very symetrical that the tendency to get lost is high.
Anyway, after waiting in line to get served, we started our orders.
Conti’s Crispy Squidlets = PHP110.00
For appetizers, we had the crispy squidlets (Diosa is a big fan of squid so this is to stimulate her appetite). For me, there was nothing extra ordinary for the taste (kind of disappointing) and if you want to make it a spicy appetizer, just dip it to the sauce. I even joked that this is similar to the ones being sold on the streets minus (hopefully) the MSG but more or less the same taste.
Conti’s Baked Prawns = PHP 295.00
This was Diosa’s order. Pricey yet I can say this is a great pick! At first, I was expecting it to be just a normal fried prawn with flour but I was wrong. There is something about the way they cooked this that you can say it is yummy. It doesn’t have the “fried” taste and you would literally eat everything except the head and tail. My only wish is that if they could serve this with more prawns and this would be perfect! It also comes with crab salad and rice.
Conti’s Baked Salmon = PHP 325.00
Ah, at last, the specialty of the house, the baked Salmon. Salmon + Paella rice and a few carrots and corn added there equals great feeling of satisfaction for me. What makes their salmon taste great is the sauce or covering (I don’t know what it is called, just see the yellow coating it has) which for me removes the feeling of too much salmon taste. I can’t really describe it but when I’m eating salmon, it would come to a time where I would tire of eating it and will have a hard time finishing it. This is where their sauce comes in. It gives you this salty aftertaste that would make you eat more (their rice needs to be increase from two little paella balls) and go hand in hand with the salmon taste. Great food!
So that was our dinner, and we followed it up with Yogurt from White Hat.
Our only problem with our dinner was the waiting time. The server said that it will be served in 15-20 minutes but (I timed it) it was already past 25 minutes before they got to serve our dinner which is bad if you are already hungry. We were just lucky that we ordered appetizers else we would be very frustrated and very hungry. Aside from that, everything was great!
