Flavors of Asia: Marriott Hotel Manila Buffet Displays

I recently went to Marriott Hotel Manila to try out their Flavors Of Asia Buffet. This is a month long buffet (July 2012) where you can enjoy a variety of Asian Cuisines especially from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Why especially? Because to make their country’s cuisine much more personalized, Marriott Manila has invited a chef from each of these countries and they are available to serve you in the buffet.
Before I show you what they have, here’s the price first…
| Dinner Buffet Schedule | Price |
| Sunday to Thursday | PHP 2300 |
| Friday to Saturday | PHP 2500 |
and let’s start with the drinks.

From left to right:
- Vietnam: Limade (fresh lime juice with syrup)
- Indonesia: Apolkat Shake (avocado & chocolate) – My personal favorite!
- Thailand: Thai lemongrass (lemongrass and syrup)
- Malaysia: Teh Tarik (black tea and condensed milk)
Do ensure that you try all of them as they were all gooood and they were unlimited too. Now, let’s start… (I’ll try changing the order where text comes first then pictures).
Upon entering, the first thing you would see would be the desserts but moving past that, we start with the bhan xiao. It looks like an omelet but actually it is a Vietnamese crepe and that’s Chef Phan Tien Hoa cooking me authentic bhan xiao.

Besides it would be the raw seafood section where you can ask the chefs to cook it (usually butter garlic).

Fresh Meat! That’s the name of the next section as we now travel to Indonesia to try out the Satay. I wasn’t able to get a picture of Chef Dadang Wahyudi and I blame it on the meat! They were hogging my camera and my plate.

and now the for the reason why I came here…

(wipes off drool) … just kidding! A quick travel back to Vietnam where you can request for Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup).

and after that we fly to Japan for some Sushi and Sashimi

and now if you want something hot for dinner, all you have to do is to move to the next station to have a taste of Thai Cuisine. I only got to picture the beef curry but they offer other kinds of curry and Thai Dishes.

The last two cuisines would be Chinese and Malaysian. For the Malaysian dishes, we have Chef Ruhizad Muri doing stir fry dishes. You choose the ingredients and for the sauce, you can also choose spicy or not. If you choose spicy, you have two choices, your way depending on your limits or Chef Ruhizad Muri’s way for a challenge.

And now that we have finished the main courses, we can go to the other table where you can have your fill of appetizers (cold cuts) and salads.

and lastly, desserts where a chocolate fondue, gelato, fruits, cakes and pastries, and sweets from different cuisines await (where my favorite would be the banh chuoi nuong or banana cake).

So that’s it for the displays. My next post would be on the actual dishes we ate.
Random FYI: Each dish has been named and you can learn from which cuisine it is from by checking the little flag on the top right of the label. The Chefs too have their own label to signify form which country they are from.
Disclosure: Marriott Manila paid for our meal.
Till next time,
