After being told about it last year, we finally managed to eat at Vikings Luxury Buffet located at San Miguel By the Bay, Mall of Asia and it made think why didn’t we eat here earlier? The food was overflowing and they just keep on refilling. There were a lot of choices and different cuisines featured. The place had a nice ambiance where you would think you are inside a ship (Vikings ship?). Although it is a bit more expensive than other buffets, it is still cheaper than hotel rates.

Before we start the presentation, let me show you their menu and prices so that you will know how much you will spend when you eat here.

Now that we have gotten that out of our system, let us start the display of food! I’ll try to break this post down into two posts as there’s a lot of pictures!

Feast your eyes on selection of sushi, maki and sashimi! Well, you can eat them too but as for me, I just look at them. The fresh sashimi is a sight to see!

For their dim sum section, they offer siomai (hakao, pork and shrimp, scallop), different types of sio paos and chicken feet.

For salads, you can get from the available salads or you can create your own.

If you like bread, they also have quite a few selections available.

They also serve free drinks! Choose from different juices (orange, dalandan, four seasons, pineapple), soda, sago gulaman and even draft beer!

Well, that’s it for now. I will continue more on their displays on my next post. We are just starting!

Till next time,

As part of our advanced Chinese New Year Celebration, Jessa and I ate at Super Bowl, a restaurant that serves Chinese cuisine. For our meal, we avoided the common dishes that are usually ordered in Chinese restaurants such as lemon chicken and beef with broccoli. As we browsed the menu, we have the tendency to pick the best sellers but I noticed that almost all of the dishes were best sellers so it was a bit challenging to choose (e.g. like.. which of these is the best among the best?).

Yang Chow Rice – PHP 210.00

In most of the Chinese restaurants I have eaten in, the Yang Chow Rice is always there. With generous amounts of egg, shrimp, meat and other ingredients, you can already eat it on its own. The serving size was said to be good to 3-4 persons but it was no match against two hungry persons.

Steamed Fish Fillet with Garlic – PHP 265.00

This was labeled as the current month’s best seller. Steamed fish on its own has little or no flavor so the garlic was a welcome companion. I would have preferred oyster sauce though (e.g. steamed lapu-lapu with oyster sauce)

2 BBQ Combination Platter – PHP 295.00

The platter has roast chicken and pork asado as the main ingredients with jellyfish and century egg. The difference between this and the Super Bowl Combination Platter would be the lack of dimsum (e.g. pork siomai, hakao, fried dumpling). The chicken and pork tasted ok, nothing too special about it.

We came to Super Bowl with growling stomachs and we went out with a stomach an inch or two bigger. With that, I can say, mission accomplished!

Till next time,

I passed by SM Makati one day after going around Park Square and found myself hungry. As we would be eating dinner in a while, I was looking for something light to fill my stomach with and I found these.

Bibingka from Bibingkinitan – PHP 20 each

I was curious about their bibingka for a while but I would usually go to Turk’s Shawarma or Jamaican Patty. I bought two of these just to try it out. It tasted like mamon but with a twist. The twist was the salty egg that they mixed with the ingredients. Their bibingka is made out of rice which is different from the coconut bibingka from Iloilo. The rice version would be more filling and oily but the coconut version was more simple and dry.

Calamansi Juice from GreenFresh – PHP 165 / 760ml bottle

Jessa likes this and since I was in the area, I bought one for her. Pure concentrated healthy goodness. You need to dilute them in water. The taste had a slight sweetness to it and mild sourness, sweet and sour juice!

Ilonggo Grill Blue Marlin and Batchoy

Jessa and I originally planned to eat at … I forgot the name resto near the office but we didn’t have much time so we opted to eat the Landmark food court instead for some fast food. When we stopped by Ilonggo Grill, I saw some blue marlins and I immediately had the craving for it. Jessa wanted to try their batchoy as well so we agreed to order there.

Blue Marlin – PHP 115

This would be the first time I ordered something from Ilonggo grill that’s not part of their value meals (e.g. porkchop with monggo for only PHP65) . Looks can be deceiving because at first glance, it looks nice and juicy. However, once you dig in, it would be the opposite because the fish meat was hard. I guess I should stick with their values meals? LoL

Batchoy – PHP 75?

It comes with the usual ingredients of chicharon, pork, liver and free egg. It had the right amount of saltiness that’s expected of batchoy and the noodles were good. Since they carry the name “Ilonggo”, Ilonggo grill didn’t disappoint on their batchoy taste. However, they still have lesser servings of the ingredients if you compare it to the ones from Iloilo.

Till next time,

I told myself that I will try their burgers when the promo is over and that day came as we went to Malcolm’s for our dinner.

Malcolm’s Classic – PHP 120

The Malcolm’s classic can already be considered as a cheeseburger where it is composed of the following:

Bun

Onions and Tomato

Patty

Cheese

Lettuce

Bun

Their burgers don’t come with any sauce so the customer can experiment on his own (e.g.. ketchup, mayo, mustard). Let me just say that their burger was very juicy and meaty. Honestly, I don’t know how to differentiate a normal beef patty from a wagyu patty but I just know it was delicious. Even their cheese slice had a yummy flavor on its own and when I added mayo to it, my I’m sold!

Malcolm’s Bacon cheese burger – PHP 140

For PHP20 more, you get 2-3 strips of bacon on your burger. Although I like bacon, I’d skip on this next time and just have the original because I don’t want to be distracted as I munch on the patty.

All that I can say to end this post would be, I’ll definitely be coming back! and oh btw, you can add real potato chips and drinks to you burger for an additional PHP40.

Till next time,

Heaven and Eggs Dinner

It’s a bit of a challenge to look for a new place to eat in Glorietta when Jessa and I are always there. But for this meal, we decided to eat at Heaven and Eggs. Heaven and Eggs used to be a very light place where everything is very bright and relaxing but since then, they have renovated and took on a rock and roll theme. Nothing against that but the name Heaven and Eggs reminds me of breakfast and it doesn’t quite match with their current ambiance. But that’s just me. So we browsed through the menu and here were our orders.

Dory Fillet – 295.00

This was pretty plain that to be honest, disappointing. It tasted normal (bland if you don’t put lemon).

Manila Ribs 2011 – 325.00

Yum Yum! Baby back ribs in BBQ sauce and java rice equals satisfaction! The ribs were very tender that you can easily scrape them off the bone (just like how ribs should be). The java rice is a perfect complement to BBQ sauce and they did it well here. It comes with salty egg and crunchy (fried) egg.

Rock U Like Hurricane – 365.00

This was tenderloin steak wrapped in bacon. I requested for the steak to be cooked medium but the request got ignored because I got a almost well-done steak. I would think that the cooking was uneven because there were parts that were pink, parts that were brown and partial bacon strips that got burnt. However, taste-wise, it was ok on it’s own but gravy and A1 sauce helps! It comes with mini sunny side up eggs (quail eggs?) and mushrooms.

Overall, our dinner was enjoyable thanks to the bbq ribs! They are a bit pricey (around PHP200 – PHP400 per order) but if we get to enjoy the food and the place, we won’t complain. Btw, they also offer a buffet so I’ll try it out one of these days.

I saw their Chowking’s new poster when I was passing by in Export bank. It was featuring their newest addition to their menu, the Chef Bowl Supreme. The Chef Bowl Supreme comes in two variants:

Honey Garlic Chicken

Oriental Beef

Both of them cost PHP79 solo and PHP 89 with drinks. I opted for Oriental Beef so that I won’t have to deal with chicken bones.

The chef bowl supreme is actually just rice toppings. The toppings included some vegetables (similar to what Jollibee was offering before in their previous 39’ers) and two very thin slices of egg. The oriental beef tasted like their tender beef brocolli dish but they have improved on their beef quality. It wasn’t as thin and rubbery as what I experienced and it had less sauce too. It still had that stir fry beef taste I would say that I enjoyed this dish and my only complaint would be the serving size because I wanted more.

While we were buying our dinner at the food court of Robinson’s Summit, we saw a new food stall that opened to where Siomai House was before. It was called Bodato burgers and they were selling burgers starting at PHP89. We were curious about it so we planned to try it out the next day.

They over different kinds of burgers (beef, chicken, fish, tofu etc) and toppings such as Chili Con Carne, Mushrooms and of course, cheese. So here’s what we ordered.

Bodato Beef Burger with Chili con Carne – PHP 119

Knowing that it would be spicy, I still ordered it (challenge accepted!) because I wanted something more than just plain beef burger. Their burgers are usually composed of the following:

Bun

Topping (cheese,chili con carne, mushroom)

Tomato and cucumbers

Patty

Lettuce

Bun

The chili con carne was spicy as expected but not to the point that I’m not enjoy it properly. It was actually good but the patty’s flavor has been overpowered by the topping. The patty could have been thicker but at their price, I guess it’s ok.

Bodato Frankfurter Sandwich De Luxe – PHP 119

My only comment would be; the cheese in the actual vs the pictures were different (grated cheese vs cheese strips).

Bodato Spicy Beef Burger – PHP 89

Not as spicy as I thought. This had a “black pepper” aura.

As I was doing research about them online, I noticed that their prices in Robinson’s Summit were actually lower than their prices outside. For example, in RS, the beef burger costs only PHP89 while outside, it costs PHP107. That’s nearly PHP 20 of savings.

I actually enjoyed the taste of their burger and I’m curious to try out their other offers. However, I’m afraid that with Robinson Summit’s unexplained high rents and the cheaper meal alternatives of the veterans there, Bodato might have a problem surviving there.

Till next time,

I first saw Kim N’ Chi at Robinson’s in Malate. My friends redeemed a voucher at Sakai Sushi but since I’m not a sushi person, I opted to eat in a different place and found Kim N’ Chi. I was very amazed at the serving size at Kim N’ Chi as I glanced at their displays. I even asked them if the serving size is as big as what they are displaying and I got a nod. I ordered right away…

Fast forward to another time in Glorietta, Jessa and I were in Glorietta 4’s Food Choices and she was thinking where to eat. When I saw a newly opened branch of Kim N’ Chi there, I immediately suggested it to her and she ordered a Beef Omu Rice too. They have other variants of the Omu Rice but only the beef comes with jap chae (Korean glass noodles).

Here is their Beef Omu Rice (PHP 119).

If we were to dissect it, you would see that one half of your big plate contains the omelet rice topping decorated with mayo and ketchup…

…and the other half contains the jap chae with lots of beef and carrots.

This meal at PHP 119 is bang for the buck! You will enjoy the big delicious serving of egg, rice and noodles. Carbo overload anyone? They still have other big dishes that I’d like to try in the future so watch out for my future posts as I’ll feature them here.
